Software is more integrated than ever. Integrating with others, once seen as the price of doing business is now a key revenue driver. The only way to tap into this new way of gaining revenue, partners and customers is to provide access to your API. Unfortunately most APIs are extremely hard to access, use and get data from. Companies invest thousands of hours building their APIs but spend almost no time showing people how to use them. With ReadMe, companies have all the tools they need to quickly create a beautiful Developer Experience around their APIs. Done are the days endless pages of static text tutorials and PDF diagrams. ReadMe helps deliver a beautifully interactive documentation experience that gives developers exactly what they need to quickly build integrations.

What you’ll do:

Product DesignerSan Francisco

ReadMe is on the hunt for its first full-time Product Designer! For us, User Experience comes first. We're looking for a designer with a strong focus on developer UX, a good eye for visual design, some understanding of programming and a dash of whimsy.

ReadMe powers the developer hubs of thousands of companies, so a clean design that can fit into any brand is a must. We are working to translate paragraphs of text into rich, interactive experiences, so experience with UX design is just as important as making it look pretty!

Documentation gets a bad rap sometimes... rather than thinking of it as unexciting static paragraphs of text, we see it as an opportunity to build usable, delightful experiences to help people trying to solve problems.

Since we're a small company, you'll have a huge impact... possibly the biggest impact of any job we're hiring for. Design is important to us, and we want to invest heavily in it!

Responsibilities
  • Owning all of the design elements of ReadMe
  • Taking new products from conception to pixel-perfect designs
  • Working with customers to understand pain points
  • Add a bit of fun whenever possible!

Bonus Points
  • Some html/css experience
  • Experience at early stage startups
  • Experience with developer tools
  • A love of owls!

As developers, we spend most of our time either reading documentation or writing it. Documentation is the UX we use when interacting with a new API or programming language, yet it’s almost always relegated to an afterthought.

We don’t want to just make writing “good documentation” easier – we want to change what “good documentation” even means. Let’s replace paragraphs of text with simple onboarding flows, custom-tailored code examples, intuitive SDKs and interactive UIs. (Here's some things we're excited to work on.)

Developers are just like regular consumers. They like simple, beautiful, easy-to-use products, too.

We have a long way to go still. That's why we need you!
